Here’s some verse from the powerful story of Jesus’ encounter with the Syrophoenician woman in Mark 7:24-30.
Outsider Insight
With His disciples somewhere near Tyre,
A retreat for renewal perhaps their desire.
But it wasn’t to be—
His presence became known,
A woman came to Jesus,
Fell at His feet like a stone.
She pleaded on behalf of her demon-possessed daughter,
Their suffering was great because of the marauder.
Jesus told her of Israel’s primary place in the unfolding redemption,
It wasn’t right to take food off the children’s table—
There couldn’t be an exemption.
This insightful woman amazingly agreed He was right—
But of the crumbs that fell they could surely have a bite!
I imagine Jesus smiled when He heard this
Because He had known this was in her,
By faith she understood all had a place at God’s kingdom dinner.
He sent her off with words that caught her,
“For such a reply, you may go;
The demon has left your daughter.”
She hurried home and saw her lying on her bed,
Freed from the demon just as He had said.
